The Fly Tyer’s Carry-All*, our first product and
namesake, was the first truly portable, soft-sided fly-tying kit. Joan
designed it in 1970 for her first fishing trip to Montana. It caused
such a stir on the plane that Joan took it to Abercrombie & Fitch,
who put us in business with an order for all their stores. Around that
same time, Arthur was concerned that Joan wouldn’t carry a wading
staff. The only kinds available, then, were awkward one-piece or long,
telescoping styles, and Joan didn’t want a staff banging around her
legs. So in 1974 Arthur designed the Folstaf for Joan.
Only 9" long when folded, and it opened in an instant! To this day
thousands of anglers won’t go on a river without it. It became so
popular, Joan and Arthur created variations specifically suited to
walkers-- Volkstaf and Travlr. And
other products for anglers followed, including Arthur’s patented
designs for Catch-A-Hatch insect net and Fly Retreev.
